About the Band

Formed in 2017, this band quickly gained recognition in Connecticut’s music scene with their unique blend of traditional Blues and American Roots Music. Combining original songs with obscure covers, they bring fresh energy to every performance. Known for packing dance floors and winning over crowds, they won the 2022 Connecticut Blues Society Challenge and competed in Memphis in 2023. With their trademark "Blue Collar Blues" sound, they remain committed to delivering music that speaks to the soul and keeps the spirit of blues alive and kicking.

Carl Ricci

Carl Ricci is an acclaimed Blues guitarist, songwriter, and performer hailing from Hartford, Connecticut. Growing up in a vibrant musical environment, he developed a passion for the blues at an early age, drawing inspiration from a mix of influences, including the legendary Elvis Presley, the early Sun Records, B.B. King, Jimmy Vaughan, and Anson Funderburgh. Additionally, Ricci has been heavily influenced by the dynamic Rhode Island Blues scene, as well as the rich Blues traditions of Texas and Chicago.

Carl's musical journey began at the age of 12 when he was introduced to the guitar. His self-taught journey quickly evolved into a deep commitment to mastering the instrument and understanding the emotional sotrytelling inherent in the Blues. Over the years, he has cultivated a unique sound that blends traditional techniques with modern flair, showcasing his versitility and artistry.

With a career spanning several decades, Carl has become known for his electrifying performances. Ricci captivates audiences with searing guitar solos, and a profound connection to the music.

In addition to his solo work, Carl has collaborated with esteemed artists across the Blues, solidifying his reputation as a respected figure within the music community. He is a regular performer at major blues festivals and local venues alike, earning a devoted following that appreciates both his talent and authenticity.

Johnny Marino

Johnny Marino is a talented and soulful blues harmonica and guitar player known for his emotive playing and singing, as well as deep-rooted connection to the blues tradition. With a style that blends raw emotion with technical proficiency, Marino has become a respected figure in the blues music scene.

Born and raised in the heart of America's blues country, Johnny Marino was introduced to the harmonica at a young age, drawn to the instrument’s ability to express the pain, joy, and resilience that are central to the blues genre. Influenced by blues legends such as James Cotton, James Montgomery, Paul Butterfield, and Magic Dick, Marino developed a unique sound that is both classic and contemporary.

Over the years, Marino has honed his skills through live performances and studio recordings, working with a wide range of musicians and bands. His passion for blues has taken him to stages around the country, where his electrifying harmonica solos and heartfelt performances have won over fans and critics alike.

Whether playing traditional Chicago, Texas, Delta, or more modern interpretations of the blues style, Johnny Marino's music is deeply rooted in the rich heritage of the genre, while always pushing the boundaries of his craft. His playing captures the spirit of the blues—raw, unfiltered, and unforgettable.

Michael "Squid" Rush

With 30+ years as a pro bass player, Squid’s mastery of the bass is rare and remarkable. A master of many styles including blues, funk, rock, jazz, and most especially R&B, he brings a great punch and jump to the 706 sound.  Mike is also an electric and acoustic guitarist of some accomplishment. He began his professional music career in the fertile Burlington VT music scene in 1976, and in 1983 moved to Salem MA with the band Little Sister, which became a staple on the Boston/North Shore original music scene. In 1990, he moved to Central MA and has been active in that area since. In 2021, he crossed paths with Carl Ricci and was soon invited to join 706, thus giving him the opportunity to express his love of traditional electric blues.

Squid's history prior to joining Carl Ricci & 706 Union Ave includes live and studio work as a principle member with several bands, including the Boston Horns (jazz/funk – 4 years), CuBop (electric jazz – 5 years), Rhythmo Loco (original roots rock – 3 years), the Natives (original alternative rock – 8 years), the Soul Dogs – (blues//rock – 3 years), and he presently also appears with The Water’s Edge (acoustic folk), and The L&M Rhythm Kings (original blues/roots). Mike has recorded and played with Ronnie Earl and also worked as a sideman with numerous area artists.

Dennis "Pocket" Cotton

Dennis Cotton is an accomplished drummer and award-winning music producer, renowned for his incredible talent and versatility across various musical genres. Born and raised in upstate New York, Dennis was surrounded by a rich tapestry of musical influences from a young age. His passion for rhythm and beats led him to pick up the drums at the age of 10, and he hasn't looked back since.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dennis has played with numerous bands and artists, showcasing his prowess not only in blues and rock but also in funk, jazz, and pop. His unique ability to adapt his drumming style to complement different musical environments has earned him recognition among musicians and fans alike.

In addition to live performances, Dennis is also a sought-after session drummer in the recording studio, contributing his skills to various albums that have received critical acclaim. As an award-winning music producer, he has produced a number of successful projects, demonstrating his keen ear for sound and mastery of studio techniques.

Beyond drumming, Dennis is passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of musicians. He conducts masterclasses and workshops, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience. His contributions to the music community extend to advocating for music education in schools and supporting emerging artists.

When he’s not behind the kit, Dennis enjoys hiking and spending quality time with his family. His love for life and music continues to inspire those around him, cementing his legacy as a drummer who is not only exceptional in his craft but also deeply committed to the art of music.
